Fabregas praises Mourinho as reports of a fractured relationship with Guardiola surface

Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas has praised Spurs manager Jose Mourinho describing him as one who inspired him the most when he left Barcelona.

After shining for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, the player returned to his boyhood club Barcelona in 2011 but returned to the Premier League with Chelsea helping them to the league title in the 2014/15 season and according to the player, he still has a close relationship with Mourinho.

The claims come at a time when there have been reports that the player has had a broken relationship with Man City boss Pep Guardiola with the player claiming that he didn’t feel better at Barca more so in his last season.

“I was a little out of tune with the club (Barcelona) at the end. I started the first year very well and then I think I had a very good year in the second, with Tito (Villanova). But football has no memory. My feelings are that that period with Barca, seen from my perspective now, was much better than it seemed when I left the club.

“I have always liked to be valued and esteemed by the clubs (I play for), and when I saw that I no longer was at Barca, I saw that there were coaches in Europe who valued me more.

“My first season at Chelsea, when we won the double, helped me a lot. He(Mourinho) was the one who inspired me the most when I left Barca. He told me that we had (differences) on the field, but that it ended there,” the 33-year-old told Catalunya Radio’s Tot Costa programme via the Mirror.

The player is currently in the books of Monaco a club he joined after leaving Chelsea in 2019.
