Chelsea have advanced to the Champions League knock out stages with two games to spare following a 2-1 victory over Rennes on Tuesday evening.
Callum Hudson-Odoi opened the scoring for Chelsea in the first half before Sehrou Guirassy leveled the scores with five minutes remaining to stoppage time. Giroud delivers for Chelsea yet again as he netted the goal that sent the Blues to the knock out stages.
Chelsea took the lead in the 22nd minute through Hudson-Odoi, a goal made in the club's academy. Mount showed superb tenacity to win the ball back deep in his own half and he drives forward. Rennes were a little unorganized and Mount spotted Hudson-Odoi sprinting in behind.
He found him with a fantastic 60-yard pass and the winger gallops through on goal before rolling a neat finish under Gomis.
Five minutes to stoppage time, Rennes drew level through Guirassy who nodded in from Bourigeaud's corner. He was left in far too much space.
Substitute Olivier Giroud restored Chelsea's lead in the 90th minute. Werner was denied by the goalkeeper but the ball looped high and the Frenchman came up with a huge goal.
The Blues have now qualified for the last 16 of the competition with the first legs set to take place on February 15/16 with the return legs on March 16/17.
