Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has offered a fitness update on a number of his key players ahead of Friday night's FA Cup tie against Aston Villa.
The Reds will be without Naby Keita, Joel Matip and Diogo Jota, who are still recovering from their respective injuries.
Speaking during the pre-match conference, Klopp revealed that the club's number 8, who has not featured since the 7-0 win over Crystal Palace is nearing a return.
“Yes, soon, but not for the Villa game,” he responded to the question of whether Keita will be back soon.
Matip is expected back soon as well, with Klopp revealing the defender will be assessed ahead of the match against Man United, set for 17 January.
“Yes, we will try working on that obviously. Until the United game we still have nine days around about, so we try.
“He is in a good way but if it will be United or a few days later, I don’t know. After the United game we will obviously play every three days again, so I think that’s pretty sure, but for the United game, we will see.”
Jota, who picked a knee injury in Denmark against FC Midtjylland on December 9, is still 'a few weeks' away.
“It will still take time, he is still wearing a brace, so that means he is still a few weeks away from team training.
“There is nothing really to say, it takes time. There was no surgery needed, which was good, but it was a proper injury.
“It is not a little knock or something; no, no, and it will still take time. There is no real timeframe there.”
Liverpool will play away to Aston Villa on Friday night in the first FA Cup match, with their next match set for next weekend.
