Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has moved to deny reports that Bernard is set to join Roma this month as part of a deal that would see Robin Olsen's loan switch to Goodison Park made permanent.
Roma were linked to signing Bernard last summer before Sweden goalkeeper Olsen made the temporary move to Merseyside to provide Jordan Pickford with competition.
But when asked to provide an update on the speculation regarding any such swap deal, Ancelotti said on Friday: “Olsen is our player. It’s a totally different situation.
"With Olsen, we would like to keep him, we are going to talk with Roma. Bernard is our player, we are not talking to Roma.”
Bernard has struggled to cement a regular place at Goodison Park after moving to the Premier League from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018. After being linked with an exit over the summer, he has only started two league games so far this season.
Roma are managed by Paulo Fonseca, who previously worked with Bernard at Shakhtar. Since they are looking for an attacking midfielder, a deal for the Brazilian would make sense.
