Mesut Ozil says goodbye to Arsenal as Fenerbahce move inches closer

Mesut Ozil's transfer away from Arsenal moved an inch closer on Sunday after the playmaker bid goodbye to the club.

Ozil is set to travel to Turkey ahead of a move to Super Lig side Fenerbahce, with the medicals set for Monday.

The midfielder's contract was set to expire this summer, but both parties have agreed to terminate it with immediate effect, which will see him sign for the Turkish giants as a free agent.

Earlier in the week, Ozil revealed his desire to play for Fenerbahce, and it seems his wishes will finally come true.

"If I went to Turkey, I could only go to Fenerbahce," he said during a Q & A session on Twitter.

"I grew up as a Fenerbahce fan as a kid in Germany - every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany.

"And mine was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain. The biggest club in my country."

Ozil fell out of favour at the club under Mikel Arteta and was omitted from Arsenal's Premier League and Europa League teams.

Ozil was signed from Real Madrid in 2013, and he will leave having scored 44 goals, and registered 77 assists in 254 appearances for the London club.
