Former Liverpool, Man United forward Phil Chisnall passes on aged 78

Liverpool are mourning the death of former forward Phil Chisnall, who passed on aged 78.

Chisnall arrived at Liverpool from Manchester United, where he had spent six seasons, in April 1964 and remains the last player to transfer directly between the two clubs.

In a statement the club said;

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Phil Chisnall.

"The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club are with Phil’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time.

"Rest in peace, Phil Chisnall 1942-2021,"

His final game came in the first leg of the 1965-66 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final against Glasgow Celtic and he then departed to join Southend United, where he played for four years.
