Conte: The level of Tottenham is not high

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has admitted the club's level at the moment 'is not high'.

This follows Thursday night's 2-1 loss to Slovanian side Mura in the UEFA Conference League, which puts their progression in the balance.

It was a night to forget for the Italian and his side, who conceded an 11th-minute goal before they were reduced to 10 in the 31st minute when Ryan Sessegnon was shown a red card.

Harry Kane pulled them level in the 72nd minute, but a last-minute goal from Amadej Marosa condemned the London side to yet another defeat.

Speaking after the match, Conte was critical of his team as he gave his honest assessment.

"After three weeks I am starting to understand the situation. It is not simple. At this moment the level at Tottenham is not so high," he said.

"I must be honest and tell you that after three-and-a-half weeks, I am starting to understand the situation. I can tell you that the situation is not simple. It is not simple because at this moment for sure the level of Tottenham is not so high.

"There is an important gap to the top teams in England. Of this, we must not be scared. I am here to work, here to improve the situation. I know that at this moment we need to have patience, time and I am here because I know there are problems to solve.

"After three-and-a-half weeks, I am happy to stay here but at the same time, I must be honest and tell you we need to work a lot to improve the quality of the [current] squad. We are Tottenham and Tottenham in this moment, there is an important gap.

Conte was appointed early this month to replace Nuno Espirito, who was sacked following a poor run of results.

They next play Burnley in the Premier League hoping to bounce back to winning ways.
