Carabao Cup: Injury update on THREE Liverpool stars ahead of Arsenal clash

Liverpool will be without a number of their key stars when they play Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semifinal second leg clash on Thursday night.

The Reds were held to a 0-0 draw in the first leg played last week at Anfield, and will be required to win at Emirates to book a place in the final.

The club will however be forced to do without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after picking a knock during their 3-0 win against Brentford in the Premier League over the weekend, a match in which he shone for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Speaking ahead of the match, Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders told reporters he 'will not rule out the weekend', suggesting the England international may not face his former side.

“If we speak about Ox we have to discuss his performance as well. He was outstanding.

“He gives so much to the team because of the variety he can play with because he can play on the eight, he can play on the nine, he can play on the wing and he plays all these positions with a lot of quality. He is in a really good moment so it’s a shame that he falls away.

“I spoke yesterday with him and he thinks it’s not that bad. We have to assess it day by day. I would not rule out the weekend but for sure not tomorrow.”

The Reds will also be without Thiago Alcantara, who is expected back in training after the upcoming international break.

The Spain midfielder has not featured for the Reds since the victory over Newcastle United on December 16 due to a COVID-19 infection and a subsequent knock.

Divock Origi is however expected to resume full sessions following the Emirates FA Cup tie with Cardiff City at the start of February.

In addition, Liverpool will miss Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane, who are all at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
