2021 African Cup of Nations hosts Cameroon came from three goals down to beat Burkina Faso in post-match penalties to finish third in the tournament.
Cameroon arrived into the game just 48 hours after being eliminated in the semis by Egypt in post-match penalties and their tired legs showed when they went behind after 24 minutes as Issa Kabore crossed for Steeve Yago to fire home at the back post.
Burkinabe doubled their lead at the stroke of halftime following a horrible moment for Inter Milan-bound goalkeeper Andre Onana. Kabore was involved again as he got the byline on the right and Onana made a complete mess of his cross and spilled the ball into his own net.
While the hosts introduced Vincent Aboubakar at half-time, it was Burkina Faso who went further ahead on 49 minutes when Dango Ouattara headed home the third goal but from then it was Cameroon all through.
Stephane Bahoken pulled one back late and then Aboubakar scored twice in three minutes late on to force the game into an incredible finale; the two goals ensuring that Aboubakar finished the tournament as the top scorer.
In the penalty shootout, Onana saved Blati Toure's decisive penalty to hand the hosts a podium finish in the tournament.
