Why Thiago Alcantara missed Carabao Cup final

Thiago Alcantara missed the Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday despite having been named in the starting team.

The Spaniard was initially named to play alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho but picked an injury during the regular warm-up before the match.

Jurgen Klopp was then forced to make the change, drafting in Naby Keita in place of the Spaniard with Harvey Elliot taking a place on the bench.

Thiago was pictured in tears just before the match, with Alisson Becker, who sat on the bench consoling him.

Roberto Firmino, who has missed Liverpool's last two matches, could not shake off a muscle injury he picked during the Champions League match against Inter Milan and remained out.

Full Liverpool line-up: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Keita, Henderson; Diaz, Salah, Mane

Substitutes: Alisson, Konate, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino, Jota, Tsimikas, Origi, Elliott
