FF Kalmar of Sweden defender, Gbenga Arokoyo has been reported to be out for several weeks on the sidelines, following surgery on a nagging injury during pre-season drills with the Scandinavian club.

According to reports, the former youth international and one-time Super Eagles invitee underwent surgery on Monday, January 20 following repeated medical checkups from doctors.

Arokoyo had earlier opted to play through the pain barrier, as he tried to weather the storm and battle on, with high hopes of recovering naturally, only to give up when the situation did not improve.

Consequently, Arokoyo went under the knife at the start of the week and, although no exact timeline has been given for his absence, feelers indicate that the lanky stopper could even be out for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

That would mean the expect combo between Arokoyo and fellow-former Golden Eaglets star, Chidiebere Nwakali will not materialize.

Nwakali, who was part of the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning squad, signed for Kalmar to link up with Arokoyo and Chima Akas on the team that once had Abiola Dauda on their books.
