Champions League predictions: Ex-Arsenal star predicts Man United draw, Madrid win
Former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas has predicted that Manchester United and PSG will draw in their Champions League round of 16 at Old Trafford.
Charlie, who admits he had ruled out the Red Devils when the draw came out and were still under Jose Mourinho, accepts that the upturn of positive results under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has influenced him to change his mind. And now he predicts that a 2-2 draw is in the offing when the two sides clash at Manchester United.
"When this draw came out, I gave Manchester United no hope - but now, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I think it could go either way. The absences of Neymar and Edinson Cavani are a huge blow for PSG and a boost for United. Cavani would have caused them a tonne of problems. United must take a lead into Paris, and Paul Pogba has been in immense form. He must do it on nights like these." Nicholas predicts.
Ajax Real Madrid
As the defending champions Real Madrid travel to the Netherlands to face a youthful Ajax, the former footballer thinks the Los Blancos will come back home with a 3-2 hard-fought win. Nicholas praised the Ajax side that encompasses young and old players, their philosophy and their stadium but went shot of giving them a win though.
"Ajax have found their mojo and are a decent force again, but there is a combination of old and young. Tadic has a creative spark. Hakim Ziyech and Klaas Jan Huntelaar are scoring. They have never changed their philosophy on how they wanted to master the art of entertaining football. Young players are probably not as good as they should be, but they are covering it with Daley Blind, who is back now. It is about understanding the club and integrating young players into the football club that they know. I have always had a lot of respect for them. They have a lovely stadium in the centre of the city, and one of the most iconic kits." he explained.
Tottenham vs Dortmund
Charlie has also predicted another draw for another English side Tottenham Hotspur who will be playing Borrusia Dortmund at Wembley. Mind you, Harry Kane and Dele Alli are still out injured and Mauricio Pochettino will again have to keep his faith on Son Heung-Min and Fernando Llorente up front. Charlie has predicted a 1-1 draw.
"Spurs are grinding results at the minute but doing the business without Harry Kane and Dele Alli. Heung-Min Son has to be in the potential list of six for Premier League player of the year. He is carrying Spurs through and his energy levels have been outstanding. This is a different Dortmund side though, and I still feel Spurs have a weakness at the back. Mauricio Pochettino has been chopping and changing too much in defence. Kane could be back for the return leg but the reality is this is another game of goals." the former footballer added.
