Wits coach Hunt says badge-kissing is nonsense

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt has commented on Phakamani Mahlambi celebrating his weekend goal against his ex-club Wits, saying players should go ahead.

Mahlambi received his Absa Premiership debut at Wits under Hunt in August 2015, left for Egypt’s Al Ahly in 2017 before returning to Mzansi to join Kabo Yellow in 2018.

“They [Sundowns] pay his wages and he can do what he likes‚” Hunt told Times Live.

“That business of kissing badges is a lot of nonsense.

“Not celebrating goals…who pays your wages?

Hunt also confirmed Wits’ buy-on clause when Ahly sold the player in 2018.

“They [Sundowns] pay his wages and he can do what he likes. We made our money [when they sold him to Al Ahly and later to Sundowns]‚ yah,” he concluded.

Mahlambi and his Sundowns next take on Cape Town City tomorrow evening.
