Double injury boost for Manchester United ahead of Barcelona clash

16 Apr 2019, 08:45

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Alexis Sanchez and Nemanja Matic will be available for selection in the Champions League return leg match against Barcelona tonight.

United head into the match targeting to overturn a one-goal deficit after suffering a 1-0 at Old Trafford last week. Luke Shaw put the ball into his own net following Luis Suarez's header which handed Barcelona a slim victory. The Red Devils missed the services of the duo during their home defeat and Solskjaer has confirmed their availability having travelled to Spain with the rest of the squad. The former Arsenal ace has been on the sidelines after suffering ligament damage during United win over Southampton while Matic has been absent for two weeks.

"Fitness-wise they are both available and of course for Alexis, who has played for this club before, it’s a big night. When he’s on the pitch I’m sure he will want to prove a point. Not just to Barcelona but also to us as well because he’s been injured and he’s not had a great season. Hopefully, he can finish the season well because this is the business end. Let’s hope Sanchez can be happy with his performance."Solskjaer said.

On overturning deficit

"Well, of course, the memory of PSG will help the players. As a team, we know that we can turn things around. Barcelona is difficult prospect but PSG is not that long ago and we are one goal better off this time around."
