Africa and the world is now a few days away from what will be the most-watched AFCON tournament in history. Why? The AFCON will, for the first time, not be played between January and February. Instead, the continental showpiece, will for the first time in history play during the European season break.

So what do the Egyptians have to offer as far as stadium venues?

1. Cairo International Stadium



  • City: Cairo
  • Capacity: 75,000
  • Matches: Six Group A matches, a Round of 16 match, a quarter-final, a semi-final, and the tournament final.

2. 30 June Stadium


  • City: Cairo
  • Capacity: 30,000
  • Matches: All Group C group stages matches, a Round of 16 match, a quarter-final and one semi-final.


3. Al Salam Stadium

  • City: Cairo
  • Capacity: 30,000
  • Matches: Seven group matches, one Round of 16 match and a quarterfinal.


4. Alexandria Stadium Egypt



  • City: Alexandria
  • Capacity: 20,000
  • Matches: Five group stage games and one Round of 16 match.


5. Suez Army stadium


  • City: Suez
  • Capacity: 27,000
  • Matches: Five group stages matches, a round of 16 match and a quarter-final clash.

6. Ismaila Stadium

  • Matches: Three Group D matches and one Group E match.

So what else have CAF changed for AFCON 2019? Well, the tournament new format from 16 to 24 teams will see six groups with four teams in each. The teams in each group play a single round robin.

After the group stage, the top two teams and the four best third teams will advance to the round of 16.
