Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has been the subject of intense transfer speculation all summer and it seems as though Juventus is winning the race for his coveted signature.
Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Manchester City & Liverpool have all allegedly tabled offers for the teenage centre back, but it's the Old Lady old Juventus that sits in the driving seat now.
Dutch media has reported as much yesterday, with De Telegraaf reporting that Juve is increasingly confident of doing a deal worth around €70 million, with de Ligt set to make a salary upwards of €20 million.
Sky Sport Italia transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio also had some de Ligt-related news on Friday. He didn’t go as far as De Telegraaf did by saying that a deal is close to being done between Juventus and Ajax, but Di Marzio stated that “confidence is growing and the situation is now in the hands of Juventus” regarding a move for de Ligt. Di Marzio also says that Juve’s Chief Football Officer Fabio Paratici will back on the hunt to try and get a deal done come the weekend.
Interestingly, Juve's current number 4 Martin Caceres is set to leave the club, leaving de Ligt's favoured jersey number vacant.
