Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United received more than 50 players on the first day of a three-day trial period at the club’s training base in Goan Institute-Nairobi.
United had called for trials in a bid to spot fresh talents as they gear for the coming season which is slated to Kick off on August 31; the group trimmed to 30 players at the end of the session.
In a post on their social media platforms, Mathare noted: “Over 250 players turned up for trials at Goan Institute grounds on Monday.
“The number was later trimmed to 30 by the team of coaches led by assistant coach Salim Ali. The remaining group will be assessed further in the next two days.”
The session was being conducted by coach Salim as head coach Francis Kimanzi is in Egypt with the national team who are currently featuring in the African cup of Nations; Kimanzi being Sebastien Migne assistant.
Mathare, seemingly have the toughest start to the 2019/20 season with the team slated to open the campaign with a tie against Bandari FC. The Slum Boys then come up against Ulinzi Stars, Kariobangi Sharks and then take on newbies Wazito FC respectively.
