Blow to Cameroon as striker is ruled out of AFCON due to heart problem
Cameroon have suffered a major blow ahead of their opening match in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament after striker Diederick Joel Tagueu was ruled out due to a heart problem.
The defending champions will take to the filed on Tuesday night against Guinea Bissau, and the striker was initially in contention for a starting berth.
Tagueu, who turns out for Maritimo in the Portuguese topflight was making his debut in the tournament, but it seems his dream has come to an early end.
He netted 10 goals in 33 outings for his Portugues side and was expected to lead the Indomitable Lions' frontline in Egypt.
The Cameroon Football Federation are expected to write to CAF so as to replace him with another player.
Cameroon are in Group F alongside tournament favourites Ghana, Guinea Bissau and Benin.
