Kenyan international Joseph Okumu secured an assist and aided Real Monarchs to a clean-sheet in the 5-0 win over Tacoma Defiance while Michael Olunga clocked ninety minutes in Kashiwa Reysol's 1-2 win over Tokushima.
The former Chemelil Sugar defender continued from where he left from in the 2019 African Cup of Nations as he assisted Douglas Martinez's second goal in the 36th minute after Maikel Chang had put Real Monarchs ahead in the eighth minute. Martinez went on to bag a hat-trick in the 67th and 76th minute before Jack Blake rounded up the emphatic scoreline.
Monarchs are sixth in the United Soccer League Championship in the USA with 27 points from 17 games, they, however, stand no chance of promotion as the league format does not allow promotion/relegation.
Olunga clocked full 90 minutes as Kashiwa Reysol beat Tokushima 1-2. Olunga could not prolong his goal scoring streak after scoring his first goal since exiting AFCON in the last game against Ventforet Kofu. Masaki Watai opened the scoring for Tokushima but a late comeback in the final four minutes of the game saw Jiro Kamata and Yusuke Segawa score to hand Reysol the vital win.
Reysol are joint top of the Japanese J2 League with 40 points but an inferior goal difference sees them sit third, a place below the automatic promotion places.
