Nigeria centre forward Odion Ighalo has apologized to Nigerians after last night’s AFCON 2019 semi-finals 2-1 defeat to Algeria.
The Super Eagles’ AFCON 2019 dream ended with the last kick of the game when Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez superbly struck the winner from a free-kick and just minutes after Ighalo has equalized for Nigeria via a penalty set-piece.
Ighalo has expressed his pained regret to Nigerian media during the game’s post-match conference.
“We want to tell them we are sorry, we gave our best but our best was not enough, we conceded a last-minute goal,” Ighalo said.
“We have to keep working hard, we have a game on the 17th of July 2019 in the Third place. We hope to win that game and go with that,” he concluded.
The West African will next take on Tunisia in a third-place battle this Wednesday evening at 20:00 (Nigeria time).
