Derby County maintain interest in signing Brighton's Matt Clarke

Derby County have maintained their interest in signing Brighton & Hove Albion defender Matt Clarke on a loan deal before the Championship season commences.

Derby will take on Huddersfield Town on Monday, August 5 and the summer transfer window is set to close on Thursday, August 8 at 5 PM (CAT).

Clarke has reportedly been garnering attention from other clubs in the Championship according to Derbyshire Live.

The 22-year-old was signed by Brighton from Portsmouth for an undisclosed amount on a four-year contract - however, he could be awarded the opportunity to go on loan to gain more playing time.

The youngster's football career began at Ipswich Town and went on to have a loan spell at Portsmouth before they signed him permanently in 2016.

Clarke has made approximately 172 appearances for Portsmouth and managed to get nine goals under his belt - he was also voted as the Supporter's Player of the Year for the past two seasons.

Midfielders Graeme Shinnie and Kieran Dowell were recently signed by Derby and the latter are set to bring on Arsenal's Krystian Bielik on a permanent move.

Bielik is said to be a versatile player because he can as a centre-back or a defensive midfielder which could be of great use for manager Phillip Cocu.
