Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has taken time to recall his first encounter with former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel.
Ndidi was invited to the Super Eagles on 8 October 2015, making his debut in the friendly game against DR Congo, and playing again a few days later in the 3–0 win against Cameroon, when he replaced Mikel in the 63rd minute.
He said he grew up idolising Mikel, describing the opportunity to play alongside the retired Eagles midfielder in the national team as a great memory.
“I’ve met him and played with him. My first feeling, when I came to the national team, the first time I saw him, it was my debut in the qualifiers and I actually came on for him. It was a great memory for me.
“Being in the training camp with him, he’s a lovely guy and he’s great with everyone. He’s a great captain for the team.”
That experience has left a lasting memory in the heart of Ndidi who has now made 32 apperances for the Super Eagles.
