All Africa Games: Flying Eagles begin campaign

The Flying Eagles will kickoff their 12th African Games campaign on Friday with a clash with Burkina Faso at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat.

Nigeria's U20 boys led by coach Paul Aigbogun will fly the country's flag in the men's football even of the 'Africa Olympics'.

Other competitors in the football event of the tournament, will be filing out their U23 team, but Nigeria FA decided to feature it's U20 side, and this may be a high hurdle to scale for the team who reached the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland in June.

Nigeria have won six medals from eight appearances in the All Africa Games tournament’s past 11 editions, winning gold once, silver twice and bronze three times.

The team to the African Games is made up of an entirely home-based set of players, who also tasted action at the African U-20 championship in February.

Two players stand out in the team— Success Makanjuola and Emeka Chinonso — from Abuja-based Water FC which now have a growing reputation for finding hugely talented players.
