Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has withdrawn from the Germany squad that is set to take on Northern Ireland in a Euro 2020 qualifier due to illness.
Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka already left camp last week due to his lingering thigh injury and Nico Schulz injured his foot in Friday’s 4-2 loss to the Netherlands. Now, Manchester City midfielder İlkay Gundogan will also miss Monday’s showdown with group leader Northern Ireland.
Gundogan is likely to be replaced in the starting line-up by Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz. Following the 4-2 defeat at home to the Netherlands, second-placed Germany are three points behind Northern Ireland and three ahead of the Dutch, while Ronald Koeman’s side have a game in hand.
