Reports: Johannes signs for Stellenbosch FC

Former Bidvest Wits defender Robyn Johannes has reportedly joined Absa Premiership newcomers Stellenbosch FC.

As reported by Futaa, Johannes was dramatically released by Wits last week. The 33-year-old was then expected to return to Cape Town City where coach Benni McCarthy is desperate to have him back.

However, it now looks as if Cape rivals Stellenbosch have first to bring in the hugely experienced defender and as a free agent.

“It’s official,” said the source to KickOff this evening. Robyn has signed on the dotted line. It’s a two year contract with the option to renew,” added source concluded.

The well-travelled Capetonian has previously played his football at places like for the University of Pretria, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu.

Final confirmation is expected to come when the club known as Stellies make an official announcement in the coming days. The still-winless Stellenbosch travel away to Bloemfotein to face Celtic on Suday 15 September 2019.
