Absa Premiership football is back. The excitement is high after a two-week break. Futaa makes some bold predictions on who will smile or frown come Sunday night.
Of the six-match fixtures coming this weekend, we confidently don’t expect any draws!
The action will take us to Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, and Polokwane. Two particular sides are yet to celebrate any wins and we feel this might just be the weekend they taste three points.
Saturday 14 September
🔰 Arrows vs ❇️ AmaZulu (15:00)
Visitors AmaZulu are one of the teams without a win this season. What better way to claim it in the Durban derby against Abafana Bes’thende? These days no coach in football lasts beyond a run of five games without a win. Cavin Johnson should do enough to inspire his side to save his job on that grass this weekend in Claremont.
Prediction: 3-1 to Usuthu!
☠️ Pirates vs 🌶 Chippa (15:00)
Five games without a win in all competitions for a team like Pirates is unimaginable. Could it be six? We doubt it. Chippa have not won at the Orlando Stadium since 2016. Pirates might be stifled by the poor form and pressure but the motivation will still carry them towards a win. The main man Thembinkosi Lorch to the rescue?
Prediction: 2-1 to Pirates.
✌🏾Chiefs vs 🍊Polokwane (18:00)
Amakhosi. The form side in the league. Ernst Middendorp’s side will host Rise & Shine at the biggest pitch in Mzansi and this stage of the season, a yet fully fit Polokwane will huff & puff at the enormous Soccer City. The visitors have only scored two goals in four - while Chiefs have seven in as many fixtures.
Prediction: 3-0 to Chiefs.
🔵 SuperSport vs 🧢 CT City (20:00)
We have to admit this is the most difficult game to predict. We just never sure what Cape Town City will bring on a trip to Gauteng. However, SuperSport are on a roll. Especially their Player of the Month striker, Bradley Grobler. The 31-year-old is on five goals in six. On the opposite side, the Citizens are winless in three games.
Prediction: 3-2 to City.
Sunday 15 September
🐆Leopards vs 🔰Baroka (15:00)
We’re talking the Limpopo derby. A fixture that does not know goalless games. The last stalemate between Bakgaga and Lidoda Duvha was back in 2016. The last two derbies have gone the way of Leopards but this weekend will belong to Baroka. Wedson Nyirenda’s side can’t afford to go a third match without a league win.
Prediction: 3-2 to Baroka.
☘️ Celtic vs 🍇 Stellenbosch
Stellies are yet to win a PSL game since getting promoted to Mzansi top division. While Siwelele have not won a game in three attempts, the desperate visitors will offer a classic sit-back-and-nick-it game.
Prediction: 2-0 to Stellenbosch.
Meanwhile, champions Mamelodi Sundowns have African duties this weekend. Kabo Yellow travel to the Seychelles to face Cote d’Or in a first leg CAF Champions League group stage qualifier.
