Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has recounted his ordeal during a long injury layoff.
Ighalo was sidelined for two months due to a hamstring injury he copped in Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Tunisia in the third-place match at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in July.
He returned on Sunday in Shanghai Shenhua’s 3-0 home loss to Tianjin Teda in a Chinese Super League game.
“I am pleased to be back again even if I could not score,” Ighalo told Sports Extra.
“It was so awkward for me being out that long, it’s the first time I have been that out for so long. Before the AFCON, I was out for some weeks and after the tournament I sat out for almost two months but all that is behind me now.
“I am looking forward to helping my team finish well this season. We have about nine games to play so I want to contribute my quota to my club, that’s my focus now.”
The 30-year-old was the top scorer at the AFCON 2019 with five goals.
