Mamelodi Sundowns have crashed out of the MTN8. Kabo Yellow took a 2-0 upset from Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.
The 2-0 second leg win saw Matsatsantsa advance to the final with a 3-1 aggregate score. The game in Attridgeville was of course preceded by a 1-1 draw at SuperSport.
The result also meant that the MTN8 is a Cup that continues elude coach Pitso Mosimane's hands. United's opener came via Teboho Mokoena's superb grass-cutter on 11 minutes. The final nail in the coffin followed on 85 minutes through substitute Jamie Webber.
Sundowns coach Mosimane was noticeably gracious in accepting the defeat. Pitso admitted SuperSport are a very awkward team to play, but credit should go to the better team on the night.
“I have to congratulate coach Kaitano [Tembo], his tactics were very good. Spot on. Very awkward, very difficult for us to get want we want,” Pitso said to SuperSport TV in the post-game chat.
“They are a very difficult team to beat, to be honest. You have to understand it,” concluded the league’s coach of the season.
Meanwhile, SuperSport will meet Highlands Park in this year’s MTN8 final. The game has been confirmed for the Orlando Stadium on 5 October 2019.
