Three first-half goals were enough to ensure Manchester City kick-started their title defense with a 3-0 win over Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.
City were off to a quiet start judging form their last clash against Watford where they were 5-0 up by the 18th minute. They, however, broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Raheem Sterling run at the Forest defense with great pace and skill, swerving this way before banging a shot home from just inside the box.
Pep Guardiola's men doubled their lead in the 35th minute when Sterling who was a threat in the opening stages of the game set up Gabriel Jesus who run across the face of goal to finish with a one time shot to bag his first goal in the competition this season.
Preston were unfortunate to go 3-0 down, three minutes before half time when Sterling barrelled down the left then slipped a perfectly weighted pass into the box for David Silva, whose shot from a tight angle on the left was deflected past the keeper by Ryan Ledson.
City fluffed most of their chances in the second half as Preston succeeded in their damage limitation campaign. The Blues next face Everton in an English Premier League clash while Preston face Bristol City in the Championship with both games slated for Saturday 28th September.
