Tonight's friendly between Germany and Argentina will showcase two of Europe's hottest young forwards and two historical giants of world football in their 23rd meeting.
These sides have contested three World Cup finals in the past, including in Brazil in 2014, but both global giants find themselves in periods of transition.
☄️ Gnabry & Martínez the ones to watch
Bayern Munich flier Serge Gnabry was voted as his club's best player last season, and the 24-year-old has picked up right where he left off in 2019/2020. He's bagged five goals in nine appearances for Bayern this season, including a stunning four-goal salvo against Tottenham. The ex-Arsenal man has nine goals for Germany in ten appearances.
Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez, the man entrusted to take on the goalscoring burden at the Nerazzurri in place of the departed Mauro Icardi, is living up to the hype. The 22-year-old has started in six of the Albiceleste’s last seven international matches and registered five goals in that period including a first-half hat-trick against Mexico. For Inter, he has three goals and an assist so far this season in nine appearances across all competitions. The hard-working forward brings so much more than just goals to the party, though.
With no Lionel Messi in the squad, Martínez will be a key attacker both tonight and possibly in the coming years as Argentina start to adjust to life without the iconic Barcelona man.
