Arsenal open long-term contract extension talks with Aubameyang

Arsenal have opened contract negotiations with star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The London club is keen on tieing him down with a longterm commitment, despite the Gabon international having two years left on his contract.

The club is however confident of convincing him that his long-term future lies at the club, having underlined his importance since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

The lanky forward has since gone on to score 49 goals in 75 appearances and recently equaled Dennis Bergkamp's record of scoring in the first seven Premier League games of the season.

The new contract is said to have improved terms, which will see him remain at the club at least until 2023.

He has become a darling to many of the club's fans and was recently named among Unai Emery's five captains.

He has already won Arsenal's Player of the Month this campaign (in August) and was named Premier League Player of the Month for September on Friday.

He is currently with the national team and will be in action in their second friendly match on Tuesday against Morocco.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is also among the leading top scorers in the English Premier League this season, having won the gong last season alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
