Chelsea suffer double injury blow in internationals

Chelsea have suffered yet another injury in the ongoing international matches after Matteo Kovacic limped off during Croatia's 1-1 draw against Wales on Sunday evening.

The midfielder went down following Ben Davies' strong challenge in the first half, robbing the Croat the ball and feeding Gareth Bale to slot in an equaliser.

Kovacic stayed down, and after treatment, limped off and didn’t emerge for the second half, with no further reports on his state.

Still, in the same match, Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu was substituted early in the second half following what seemed like a bad injury.

The youngster was cluttered by Bruno Petkovic as he headed the ball, and the striker was fortunate to only receive a yellow card.

Ampadu was replaced by Bristol City’s Joe Morrell after a long period of treatment but was later pictured on his feet again in the Welsh dugout.

The injuries add to N'Golo Kante's injury while with the French national team, dealing another blow to the coach Frank Lampard and his Chelsea team.

The Blues are on a good run of form, winning five of their last matches, and will be keen to maintain the momentum after the international break.

They host Newcastle on Saturday in the English Premier League, before a Champions League match away to Ajax next week.
