Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has taken to a 16-year-old nicknamed “Teko.”
Chiefs Sunday Macufe Cup friendly saw five youngsters getting a high-level debut in Bloemfontein - and the club’s German coach was left chuffed.
While Amakhosi lost the game 2-0 against a far more experience Celtic, a certain Keletso "Teko" Sifama impacted the game and nearly scored a goal.
“‘Teko’ Sifama, who came in [as a second half sub] is 16 years old – the one who nearly scored his first goal in the PSL [Ed note: unofficially] – I think he can play under-17 or something, but we’ve taken him in,” Middendorp said via Kick Off.
The German coach who has a long track record of unearthing young talent everywhere he has been, further highlighted the young Sizwe Twala who also played on Sunday.
“Sizwe Twala is a player whom I believe, if he gets the learning process on the side of Leonardo [Castro], Khama [Billiat], Samir [Nurkovic], just to mention some names – I haven’t even put Lazarous Kambole in, he will develop and probably during the season will be valuable for us,” Middendorp concluded.
All Middendorp’s promoted youngsters so far:
- Happy Mashiane (left back/midfielder)
- Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (left midfielder)
- Njabulo Blom (utility defender/central midfielder)
- Given Thibedi (right-back)
- Sizwe Twala (striker)
- Keletso Twala (forward).
*Thibedi is currently at Swallows FC on loan together with striker Itumeleng Shopane and Ayanda Rorwana.
Meanwhile, Chiefs are will be to PSL football this weekend. The Glamour Boys will travel to Cape Town City for a Telkom Knockout last 16 battle on Saturday at 15:30.
