πŸ‡¬πŸ‡βš½βŒ Asamoah Gyan reminisces on that penalty miss against Uruguay in 2010

Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has admitted that missing that crucial penalty during the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Uruguay is something that he will not easily forget according to Football Ghana.

Reminiscing back on that fateful day, Gyan's strike during injury time hit the crossbar and that moment saw the hearts of Ghanaian fans being shattered to pieces.

If the 33-year-old had managed to hit the back of the net, the goal would have sent the Black Stars to the semifinal of the World Cup - the first feat by any African nation.

"In the 2010 World Cup, we were knocked out in the quarter-final in controversial circumstances," Gyan told Outlook India.

"It was against Uruguay, and I missed a crucial match-winning penalty towards the end of extra-time, after a Luis Suarez handball.

"The penalty miss is something that I will never forget. It's part of my life now. I am not the only player, who missed a crucial penalty.

"We could have become the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-final. Sometimes when I am alone, I think about it and it still hurts.

"I feel, 'Oh! Maybe we can play the penalty again so that I can redeem myself.' Life goes on, I need to forget about it and live my life."

Since 2010, Ghana have not been able to secure a quarterfinal qualification of the World Cup - in 2014 the Black Stars exited in the group stages while in 2018 they failed to qualify for the tournament.

Despite that memory still haunting him, Gyan is still Ghana's most-capped player and all-time top
