Germany defender set to miss Euro 2020 after tearing ligament

Germany is set to miss defender Niklas Sule in the Euro 2020 after he tore his cruciate ligament in a league game for Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The Bayern defender will undergo surgery immediately according to the club in a statement on Sunday after injuring himself during the first half of the 2-2 draw against Augsburg on Saturday

A statement from Bayern on their website noted: “The central defender suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He will undergo surgery today (Sunday).

The 24-year-old Sule tore his cruciate ligament in the same knee back in 2014 and is expected to stay out for several months.

Big Blow

It is a big blow for the Bundesliga giants who are third in the Bundesliga after failing to win their last two games. They have conceded 10 goals in eight matches.

With Jerome Boateng not assured about his place in the Germany team, coach Joachim Low will have to start the search of a proper replacement should they qualify for the tournament.

Bayern travels to Greece to play Olympiakos for their Champions League encounter next week before returning to league action at home against Union Berlin on October 26.
