Championship side Derby County has terminated Richard Keogh's contract after the defender was found guilty of gross misconduct.
Derby confirmed the termination of Keogh's contract with an immediate effect after the club's captain was found guilty of gross misconduct. The defender was injured during an 'alcohol-related incident' last month which saw him suffer a serious knee injury which ended the 33-year-old's season.
Derby released a statement, confirmed that they had 'completed the disciplinary hearing regarding their captain in respect of his involvement in the events of Tuesday, 24 September" and that his contract had been "terminated with immediate effect"
"As we have said from the outset, the club will not tolerate any of its players or staff behaving in a manner which puts themselves, their colleagues, and members of the general public at risk of injury or worse, or which brings the club into disrepute," the club reported.
The 33-year-old has made 356 appearances for the Rams after since joining in 2012 from Coventry.
