Italian giants AS Roma are ready to make a €15m bid for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling according to reports from the Guardian.
Smalling has had a brilliant start to life at Roma after joining them on a season-long loan in the summer and has been a regular starter for the Paulo Fonseca coached side.
The defender opened his account in the 4-0 win against Udinese on Wednesday night and it is said Roma has been impressed by his impact.
Smalling joined United in 2010 from Fulham FC and has a contract with the club until 2022 but is keen to join Roma permanently after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
United roped in defender Harry Maguire in the summer and he has been a preferred choice at the heart of the club’s defence together with Victor Lindelof with Phil Jones and youngster Axel Tuanzebe being the other options.
The Guardian claims that Roma is preparing a €15m offer to be sent to Old Trafford next week, consisting of €12m upfront and €3m in add-ons having already paid the Premier League club €3m for the loan this season.
Roma has a five-year contract ready to offer to the player and will now wait to see if Manchester United accept their bid.
