Wednesday night’s Absa Premiership games produced as many goals and fascinating results many of us had desired. We look back at all the results as well as what is coming this weekend.
Eight clubs battled for three valuable points at the top, middle and bottom of the table but not everyone could end the night successfully.
Kaizer Chiefs stood out as the club with the most significant result alongside AmaZulu, while it was bitter setbacks for the likes of Chippa United, Stellenbosch FC and Baroka FC.
- Chippa 0-2 Chiefs
Desperate to find an early jump out of the relegation drop zone, Chippa fell to a second half Dumisani Zuma brace. The loss meant that the Chilli Boys remain rock-bottom with five points behind the second-last placed Baroka. For Chiefs, the victory spelled going seven points ahead at the summit.
- Baroka 0-0 Sundowns
While Baroka will take the point against the champions, especially after reading the Chippa United result, Pitso Mosimane’s side are left wary of Chiefs opening the gap to pull away. But it’s still early days and a lot can still change.
- Cape Town City 5-3 Polokwane City
Playing their first game since the departure of Benni McCarthy and four hours after naming their new coach, the Citizens made sure to please their incoming new tactician with a stunning display.
City goals: Kermit Erasmus (6’, 45), Siphelele Mthembu (12’), Mpho Makola (71’), Dove Edmilson (74’).
Polokwane goals: Charlton Mashumba (21’, 87, 90’).
- AmaZulu 2-0 Stellenbosch
In a battle to power away from the bottom three, Durban side AmaZulu completed the three-points job - thanks to a Bongi Ntuli brace (14’ & 90’).
