Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the team’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night at Old Trafford, terming it ‘the best of the season’.
A brace from in-form Marcus Rashford on either side of a beautiful Dele Alli strike gave the Red Devils a deserved 2-1 win and served Jose Mourinho his first loss since taking over at the London club.
Speaking after the match, Solskjaer was quick to praise the team’s general performance, further singling out Rashford for his display.
“It was excellent. We should have been three or four up and you’re unlucky when you go into half-time at 1-1. It was just about picking the players up again and saying: ‘C’mon that’s the best performance you’ve put on’,”
“Chelsea in parts [was great], Liverpool in parts, but this was a mature performance. We kept the ball, we played through them, we played around them and in behind them.”
United were disciplined through the match and were impressive particularly in midfield, with the returning Scott McTominay taking the plaudits despite training for a day before the match.
“I’m so pleased to have Scotty back in there again. He had yesterday [in training] and that was it. That’s all he needs. He’s a fit boy and he looks after himself, he’s played every game and there was no chance I wasn’t going to push him through this game because we need him and he’s someone who doesn’t shirk responsibility - he wants to be in there, right in the thick of it.”
United will now turn their attention to the Manchester Derby on Saturday at the Etihad, knowing another three points will move them closer to the top four bracket.
