🚨 BREAKING: Ancelotti sacked by Napoli, Gattuso to take over

Napoli's 4-0 win over Genk turned out to be a farewell performance for Carlo Ancelotti, who was sacked by the Naples club on Tuesday night.

Internal politics have plagued Napoli's Serie A season with last season's runners-up slipping to 7th in the table after 15 rounds.

Speaking to the media after the match, the 60-year-old denied he would step down but did confirm he would hold talks about his future with president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

And a statement released via the club’s official Twitter account shortly before midnight confirmed the coach had been dismissed.

“SSC Napoli have decided to part company with first-team coach Carlo Ancelotti,” read the statement.
“The friendship, esteem and mutual respect between the club, president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact.”

Former AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso will take charge at the San Paolo Stadium, that's according to Fabrizio Romano.

Ancelotti had recently been linked with the vacant role at Premier League Everton and speculation around his future will now intensify.

The former Chelsea, Parma, Juventus, AC Milan, PSG, Real Madrid & Bayern Munich manager leaves Naples with the club 7th in Serie A but their win over Genk means they have qualified for the Champions League last 16 as group runners-up to European Champions Liverpool.
