Arsenal urged to appoint Carlo Ancelotti

Arsenal has been urged by former player Ashley Cole to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their manager.

Arsenal are without a permanent head coach since firing underperforming Unai Emery last month. The north London side appointed Freddie Ljungberg as their interim basis while the club's board identify prospective targets.

Cole believes they should look no further than Ancelotti, whom he worked with at Chelsea.

"When he talked, everyone listened," he told the Sun.

"Now it would be great if he went to Arsenal. Carlo would bring togetherness, in terms of being a friend and someone who is not always serious."

"You have to go out on a training pitch and have a laugh, to enjoy what you are doing and he brought that in training sessions with his coaching staff. But when you went to games he gave you that love, that push and the understanding of what it means to win games."

The Italian is without a club after he was sacked by Napoli on Tuesday just hours after leading Naples to a 4-0 victory over Genk, which saw them book a place in the Champions League knock out stages.
