Barcelona have is Quique Setién as their new head coach after parting ways with Ernesto Valverde on Monday.

Valverde’s position at the club has been under threat since losing to Liverpool in the Champions League last year with the club legend Xavi having been billed to take over the club in the summer.

The Laliga giants couldn’t wait to have a new man in charge of the team with Setien being handed the job until 30 June 2022.

But who is the man who has now been tasked with changing Barcelona’s fortunes?

Born Enrique 'Quique' Setién Solar on 27th September 1958 in Spain, he had a playing career that saw him represent Real Racing Club, Atlético Madrid, Logroñés and Levante; the midfielder featuring for the Spanish national team in three occasions between 1985–1986.

The 61-year-old has two decades of experience in coaching and has previously admitted that he is an admirer of Barcelona’s legend Johan Cruyff style of play.

His last stint in the coaching arena came with Seville where he left last summer. Despite being out of the game for some time, he is the last visiting coach to record a victory at Camp Nou, a scintillating 4-3 triumph over Barcelona in November 2018.

At Barcelona

Setién has signed a contract until June 2022 and his first game in charge of the Liga leaders comes at home to Granada on Sunday. Barcelona faces Napoli in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg on 26 February.
