Aston Villa have been working towards a possible deal to bring Christian Benteke back to Villa Park and now his wages have emerged as a major hurdle in negotiation talks.
According to Express & Star, Villa manager Dean Smith has been vocal about adding another striker to the team following Wesley's injury which has led him to be ruled out of action for the rest of the season.
Crystal Palace signed Turkey international Cenk Tosun on loan from Everton early in January which has pushed Benteke out of favour which makes a move away from the club inevitable.
Express & Star further reported that Villa will be hoping to secure a deal for Benteke one way or another as the price of players tends to drop closer to Deadline Day which is at the end of this month.
In other Villa news, the club announced the signing of former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina on Monday night and they hope his wealth of experience will help the club stay up in the Premier League.
Aston Villa will travel to Brighton on Saturday, January 18 where the side will hope to secure those much-needed three points.
