Solskjaer: We weren't ready for Young deal

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addressed the media ahead of Premier League encounter with Liverpool on Sunday.

Solskjaer talked about Ashley Young's impending move to Inter Milan from United during the January transfer window. Young has been linked with a move to Milan with reports on Thursday suggesting the two clubs have reached an agreement for the sale of the defender in a deal worth £1.28m.

"Ashley is 35 this year and if he gets a two-year contract somewhere, it's up to him to take that. We aren't ready to offer that, we've got players coming through, and when Ashley's mindset was on trying this, why not now?" he pointed out.

Reports from Italy suggest Young has landed at Milan Malpensa Airport and he will now travel to Coni's sports institute in Milan for his Inter Milan medical ahead of a proposed January move from Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer has installed Harry Maguire as the club's new full-time captain, taking over from Ashley Young.
