Aston Villa 2-1 Leicester City: Mohamed Trezeguet's last gasp winner sends Villa to the final

A 93rd-minute winner from Mohamed Trezeguet earned Aston Villa a place in the Carabao Cup final following a 2-1 win over Leicester City with the home fans storming the pitch after the final whistle.

Maddison chances

Leicester had a brilliant start to the game, peppering the Villa goal in the opening 10 minutes with James Maddison squandering a hat-trick of chances with the best coming in the ninth minute when his shot from 20 yards was tipped to the upright by Nyland.

Targett goal

Despite a pedestrian start to the game, Villa broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Jack Grealish held off Ricardo Pereria to feed the overlapping Targett, who smashed a first-time shot that whistled past the left leg of Schmeichel.

Tielemans chance

Leicester had a chance to draw level in the 34th minute but Nyland produced another top-class save when Tielemans played a one-two on the left, cut inside and hit a cracking rising drive from 20 yards that was pawed onto the bar by Nyland.

Samatta miss

Brendan Rodgers men pushed for an equalizer in the second half but sending bodies forward left them susceptible to a counter with debutant Mbwana Samatta missing a sitter in the 64th minute when Grealish curled a stunning pass which bounced awkwardly as the Tanzanian missed a simple tap in.

Iheanacho goal

Villa were meant to rue their missed chance in the 72nd minute when Barnes fired in a low cross across the face of goal into the six-yard box that went all the way to Iheanacho in the far post as he finished gleefully from close range.

Trezeguet goal

Villa regained their lead in the third minute of added time with a goal made in Egypt when substitute Mohamed Elmohamady curled a glorious ball between the Leicester defenders and keeper which found Trezeguet, who cushioned a beautiful left-footed volley across Schmeichel and in off the far post.

There were jubilant scenes at Villa Park after the final whistle as the home fans stormed the stadium in celebration.

Aston Villa next face Bournemouth on Saturday, February 1st while Leicester City will look to pick themselves up against Chelsea on the same day.
