It has been a tough season for Jesse Lingard on and off the pitch, but this hasn’t stopped clubs in Europe from bidding for the midfielder, according to ESPN.
The 27-year-old has just two goals and one assist in 32 appearances so far, but the paper is reporting that Atletico Madrid and Roma are really interested in his services with his current contract expiring in 2021, while there is an option to extend for a further year.
Adding to this, the paper says that in as much as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Lingard to stay at Old Trafford, the player wants to leave in the wake of the abuse he has received online from United supporters.
Speaking to MailOnline in December, Lingard admitted off-field issues were a factor behind his dip in form for United.
‘I felt it was best to get everything off my chest,’ said the midfielder.
‘I am normally quite bubbly and want to put smiles on people’s faces, but people have seen the change in my ways. I have been down and glum, just worrying. I felt like everybody just passed all the stuff to me and it weighed on my shoulders. It was like, ‘Here you go Jesse, you deal with this on your own’.
‘I wasn’t performing and he [Solskjaer] was on me all the time. He wanted more from me.’
With the January window a thing of the past, Lingard and his agent Mino Raiola have the summer window to plan if he is to move away from Old Trafford.
