Liverpool to cost Shrewsbury £500k by playing youth team in FA Cup replay

In tonight’s FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town, the Liverpool U23 team will get the rare chance of playing, as decided by first team manager, Jurgen Klopp.

But, this decision has negatively affected Shrewsbury.

According to reports, with the match not showing live on TV, the Reds have also decided to slash ticket prices.

A crowd of about 50,000 people is expected at Anfield, but there will only be 8,000 travelling fans.

On the loss of revenue expected, Shrewsbury boss said: “The revenue is vitally important for a club like ours, who is self-sustaining.

“For someone like us if we are playing Liverpool’s first team you are generating £500,000 to £600,000 as opposed to £100,000 to £150,000.

“At a club like ours every penny counts. That is the biggest disappointment — that we will lack revenue.”

With these changes, Shrewsbury will receive a broadcast fee of £72,000 and 45 percent of the gate revenue. But Liverpool have cut prices from their third-round tie with Everton that were set between £10-£50 to £15 for adults and £1 for Under-17s.

Sorry Shrewsbury, but nothing can be done now! The Liverpool first team is already out and the winter break is on.
