With Chelsea and Man United looking out for options at the front in the January window, Edinson Cavani’s name was thrown around several times. But according to his mother, the two English clubs were never an option.
With only six months remaining on his contract, Cavani was expected to leave the Parc des Princes in the winter window, due to the signing of Mauro Icardi, thus, lack of gametime.
Now, his mother, Berta Gomez, says his son wanted to leave, yes, but not to England.
“Edinson didn’t want money to be the reason, because if it was about money, he would have gone to Manchester United, Chelsea or Inter Miami, who made a big offer for him,” Gomez told Spanish newspaper AS.
“My son did everything he could to go to Atletico.
“He put pressure on by not playing at PSG and told his brother (agent) that he was willing to drop his wages to sign with Atletico.
“He wanted to play with Cholo (Diego Simeone) and he showed that at every turn.”
The 32-year-old was also said to be on MLS’ Inter Miami radar.
The mother claims a move to the Spanish outfit might still be possible in the summer, and his son would definitely agree.
