Luis Suarez will earn an automatic new deal at the Camp Nou due to a clause in his contract the player has revealed.
The Uruguay striker has just over 12 months remaining on his current deal but that will automatically be renewed if he meets specific appearance-related clauses next season but didn’t rule out a move should the club feel he is not wanted.
In an interview with RAC1, Suarez said: “There is the option next year that if I play in 60% of games I’m available for, I renew.
“I’m happy here and my family is too. I’m where I’ve always wanted to be. I feel useful but the decision must come from the club. I want to stay but it doesn’t depend on me.”
Suarez is currently out with an injury and is likely not to feature this season with the striker revealing that he has been playing through the pain something that might have aggravated his injury.
“I kept playing because I was used to playing with the pain. There were cartilage problems in my right knee and a meniscal cyst.
“That means you put more force on other parts of the knee and it all causes more issues but I’m determined to be fit again,” he added.
Due to his injury and the unavailability of Ousmane Dembele, Barca signed striker Martin Braithwaite from Leganes outside the normal window after they made a request to Laliga officials.
