Solskjaer's message to United players ahead of Manchester City clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants his side to manage their emotions when they meet cross-town rivals Manchester City.

The Red half will welcome the Blue side to Old Trafford on Sunday evening, in what will be a fourth Manchester derby of the season.

United have triumphed twice in the three times they have played, both at Etihad, with their rivals getting the better of them once, at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer knows emotions can run high at times during such clashes and has urged his players to control 'losing their heads'.

“When you're at home, you have to open up against a team like Man City and they will exploit that if you're not 100 percent,” Ole explained during his pre-match press conference.

“Sometimes, being at home with your fans, you want to show them what you can do and you want to beat your opponent. Sometimes you open up too many spaces and that's what we did for 10, 15 or 20 minutes, whatever we did after they scored a worldie [Bernardo Silva's opening goal].

“Before then, it wasn't a problem before Bernardo scored in the top corner. So that wasn't an issue until our heads went for a little while, so we've got to control our emotions more. And we have learned so that's an experience that we'll bring into this game, definitely.”

Solskjaer's only worry will be captain Harry Maguire's availability after the defender picked an injury in training in midweek.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, who both missed midweek's FA Cup clash against Derby will also be assessed ahead of the match.
